DIESEL ENGINE
GENERATOR SETS
The method of adjusting the voltage of a generator set varies depending on the type, scale, and degree of automation of the generator. Here are some common methods for adjusting voltage:
1、 Manual adjustment
For small generators, the voltage can usually be changed by manually adjusting the excitation current. This usually involves rotating an adjustable excitation adjustment knob or slider to increase or decrease the excitation current. An increase in excitation current will enhance the magnetic field strength, thereby increasing the output voltage of the generator. When adjusting, it is necessary to observe the changes in the value of the voltmeter while gradually adjusting until the desired voltage value is reached.
2、 Automatic adjustment
For large generators, an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is usually used to automatically adjust the voltage. AVR is an electronic device that can automatically adjust the excitation current according to the system's requirements. It is usually connected to the output terminal of the generator and continuously monitors the voltage level. If the voltage is too high, the AVR will automatically reduce the excitation current to lower the voltage; If the voltage is too low, AVR will increase the excitation current to increase the voltage. This method makes voltage adjustment more precise and stable.
3、 Adjust by changing the resistance
Rotor resistance adjustment: Some types of generators, such as brushless DC generators, can adjust the voltage by changing the rotor resistance. This is usually achieved by changing the current in the rotor coil, thereby affecting the magnetic field strength and voltage.
Stator resistance adjustment: In some generators, voltage can also be adjusted by changing the resistance of the stator coils. This involves changing the current in the stator coil, thereby altering the impedance in the coil and affecting the output voltage.
4、 Adjustments for specific types of generators
Excitation generator: In the control box of the excitation generator, there is usually a black circuit module that regulates the voltage, namely the AVR voltage regulator. By adjusting the screws on this module, the voltage can be precisely adjusted to the appropriate value.
Permanent magnet generator: The permanent magnet generator mainly changes the voltage by adjusting the engine speed. The higher the engine speed, the greater the voltage generated. Therefore, the voltage can be changed by adjusting the speed device on the engine.
5、 Precautions
When adjusting the voltage, it is necessary to refer to the generator's user manual to understand the standard voltage range and adjustment method of the generator.
Caution should be exercised during the adjustment process to avoid damage to the generator or other equipment caused by high or low voltage.
Regular inspection and maintenance of the generator to ensure it is in good working condition is also an important factor in maintaining voltage stability.
In summary, there are various methods for adjusting the voltage of a generator set, and the specific methods need to be determined based on the type, scale, and degree of automation of the generator. During the adjustment process, caution should be exercised and relevant safety regulations should be followed.
