1、 Cleaning work

Firstly, a comprehensive cleaning of the generator set is required. Remove dust, oil stains, and debris from the surface of the unit, as dust and oil stains may corrode the components of the unit. You can use a clean cloth and appropriate cleaning agent to wipe the outer shell. For difficult to clean parts, such as the gaps between engine heat sinks, you can use a soft bristled brush to gently clean them. At the same time, it is also necessary to clean the interior of the generator, especially the areas where dust is easily accumulated such as the air cooling channel, to ensure good ventilation.

2、 Rust prevention treatment

Due to the fact that many components of the generator set are made of metal, they are prone to rusting if left idle for a long time. After cleaning, apply a layer of rust proof oil to exposed metal parts such as bolts, nuts, shafts, etc. For key parts such as the cylinder block of the engine, specialized rust inhibitors can be used for treatment. In addition, desiccants can be placed inside the control box of the generator to prevent electrical components from rusting due to moisture.

3、 Fuel Processing

If the generator set is fuel driven, the fuel needs to be handled properly. It is best to empty the fuel tank to prevent fuel deterioration or bacterial growth. After draining the fuel, run the engine for a few minutes to exhaust the remaining fuel in the fuel system, which can prevent the components of the fuel system from being corroded by residual fuel. For diesel generator sets, some fuel preservatives can also be added to the fuel system.

4、 Battery maintenance

For generator sets equipped with batteries, battery maintenance is crucial. If the battery is in a state of low power for a long time, it will cause damage to the battery. After fully charging the battery, it can be removed from the generator and stored in a dry, cool place. Charge the battery at regular intervals (e.g. every month) to maintain its activity.

5、 Mechanical component maintenance

Mechanical components of the generator set, such as belts, fans, etc., should be inspected and adjusted appropriately. The tension of the belt can be appropriately loosened to reduce the aging caused by the belt being in a tight state for a long time. At the same time, manually rotate the rotating components of the unit, such as the crankshaft, a few turns to prevent them from being stuck due to prolonged inactivity.

6、 Storage environment selection

The environment for storing generator sets should be dry, well ventilated, and have a relatively stable temperature. Avoid storing the unit in a damp, corrosive gas or direct sunlight environment. A cover can be used to cover the unit to prevent dust and moisture from entering, but it should be noted that the cover cannot affect the ventilation of the unit.
